Licenses

All anglers 16 years and older must possess a valid California fishing license. Cost for an annual California resident license is $38.85. One-day and two-day licenses are available for $12.60 and $19.45, respectively. There are two Saturdays each year during which anyone can fish without a license. Brite Valley Reservoir
: Located southwest of Tehachapi, the lake owned by the Tehachapi Water and Parks District is open to fishing year-round. 822-3228.


Buena Vista Aquatic Recreational Area: Take Highway 43 south; highway deadends into recreation area. Fish Lake Webb and Lake Evans for catfish, striped bass, black bass and crappie. During winter, Lake Evans has a fee for trout fishing. Entry fee is $6 per vehicle. 861-2063.


Hart Park Lake: Located off Alfred Harrell Highway in Hart Park, it is open for fishing year-round. Trout are stocked during winter months.


Kern River: The river, both above and below Isabella Lake, is open to fishing year-round. Special regulations may apply on upper Kern River north of Kernville. Trout are planted on a regular basis in the Kern River.


Isabella Lake: The 11,200-acre lake is in Kern River Valley, accessible from Highway 178. The lake is open to fishing year-round. Trout, bluegill, catfish, bass and crappie can be caught.

Wilderness Area
: Fishing in high-country, pristine wilderness is available summer and fall in the Sequoia National Forest Golden Trout Wilderness Area. Special regulations including barbless hooks may apply.


Lake Ming: Open for fishing year-round in designated areas, except during posted special events. Fishing is not allowed before sunrise or after sunset. Trout are stocked during winter months. Located 10 miles northeast of Bakersfield. Take Alfred Harrell Highway to the Lake Ming Road exit.


Lake Woollomes: Located three miles southeast of Delano, take the Pond Road-Lake Woollomes exit off Highway 99. No power boats are allowed. Bass, crappie and catfish can be caught in this 300-acre lake. Trout are stocked during winter months. $3 per vehicle.


Los Padres National Forest: Trout fishing on Reyes Creek, Lockwood Creek and Piru Creek on Mount Pinos and fishing at Pyramid Lake in Angeles National Forest adjacent to Los Padres.
