Sure, the sidewalk can be fun, but there are several skate parks available for kids to practice their moves!
All Kern County skate parks require some form of safety equipment. Check with the specific park for rules and regulations.
Bakersfield
Beach Park Skate Park: Located on the west side of Beach Park, close to the bike path. The park is located at Oak and 21st streets. Hours: 5 a.m. to 10 p.m. Call the city at 326-3866 for information; safety gear (helmet, elbow pads and knee pads) is required. Skateboards and inline skates are permitted, bikes and scooters are not.
Other locations
Ridgecrest Skate Park: Located at Leroy Jackson Park near French Ave. and Prospect St. Hours: 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. Call (760) 499-5151 for information. Safety gear is required. Bicycles are not allowed in the skate park.
Taft Skate Park: Located at 10th and Kern streets, adjacent to Kern County Fire Station 21. Hours: Sunrise to 9 p.m. Call 763-4246 for more information. Safety helmets, elbow pads and knee pads are required. Inline skates are allowed but BMX bikes and scooters are not.
