All Kern County skate parks require some form of safety equipment. Check with the specific park for rules and regulations.
Beach Park Skate Park: Oak and 21st streets, on the west side of the park close to the bike path in Bakersfield. Open 5 a.m. to 10 p.m. Helmet, elbow pads and knee pads are required. Skateboards and inline skates are permitted; bikes and scooters are not. 326-3866.
The Shindig: 23rd and O streets, Bakersfield, 7 to 9 p.m. Thursdays. Free skateboarding for all ages, includes music, food and gym access for basketball. 323-4162 ext. 25.
Ridgecrest Skate Park: Leroy Jackson Park near French Avenue. Open 5 a.m. to midnight. Safety gear is required. Bicycles are not allowed in the skate park. 760-499-5151.
Taft Skate Park: 10th and Kern streets, adjacent to Kern County Fire Station 21. Open sunrise to sunset. Safety helmets, elbow pads and knee pads are required. Inline skates are allowed, but BMX bikes and scooters are not. 763-4246.
