Amtrak operates and manages the San Joaquin Valley route, known as the San Joaquins, with endpoints in Bakersfield, Sacramento and Oakland. The San Joaquins are primarily financed by the California Department of Transportation.
Four trains make daily stops along the route at Bakersfield, Wasco, Corcoran, Hanford, Fresno, Madera, Merced, Turlock-Denair, Stockton, Antioch-Pittsburg, Martinez, Richmond, Emeryville and Oakland.
Two other trains make daily stops at Bakersfield, Wasco, Corcoran, Hanford, Fresno, Madera, Merced, Turlock-Denair, Stockton (Cabral Station), Lodi, and Sacramento.
Daily departures: Trains leave Bakersfield daily for points north at 4:55 a.m. (Oakland), 7:15 a.m. (Sacramento), 10:15 a.m. (Oakland), 1:20 p.m. (Oakland), 3:45 p.m. (Oakland), and 6:10 p.m. (Sacramento).
Daily arrivals into Bakersfield: 11:58 a.m. (from Sacramento), 1:46 p.m. (Oakland), 4:11 p.m. (Oakland), 7:21 p.m. (Oakland), 9:38 p.m. (Sacramento) and 11:56 p.m. (Oakland)
Travel time: Bakersfield to Wasco takes between 30 and 45 minutes; Bakersfield to Oakland takes 6 to 6 1⁄2 hours.
Connections: Amtrak offers bus services from the San Joaquins to many California towns, including Los Angeles, San Diego and San Francisco.
Discounts: Most discounts require reservations be made at least three days in advance. Seniors get 15 percent off most fares with valid identification. Veterans get 15 percent off with a Veterans Advantage card ; active military, their spouses, and dependents are eligible for 10 percent off. AAA members get 10 percent off. Children ages 2 to 15, half price with full-fare adult. Students get 15 percent off with a Student Advantage card.
