Programs: Opened in 1970. Offers 32 undergraduate and more than 18 graduate degree programs through the schools of Humanities and Social Sciences, Business and Public Administration, Natural Sciences, Mathematics and Education. Classes are also offered at the Antelope Valley campus in Lancaster.
The college operates on a quarter system, with three, 10-week quarters from September to June and two summer sessions. The campus sits on 375 acres in southwest Bakersfield. The university has a $70 million annual budget. CSUB serves Kern, Kings, Tulare, Inyo, Mono and Los Angeles counties.
CSUB’s Extended University offers academic and nonacademic programs to enhance student knowledge. They include professional certificate programs, regional programs, online degree programs, an open university and a summer session.
Enrollment: About 7,800 students taught by a faculty of 438, including 298 full-time professors and 140 part-time professors.
Cost: Fees for each quarter are $840 for full-time undergraduate students who are California residents, and $488 for part-time undergraduate California residents. Part-time students take no more than six units per quarter. Fall quarter 2008 classes begin Sept. 15.
