The Kern County library system has more than two dozen branches, plus two bookmobiles. The system offers more than 1 million volumes and borrows books from other libraries nationwide. Services include microfilm and microfiche, duplicating, typewriters, databases and other electronic reference, audiovisual material, computers, Internet access, books on tape and CD, DVDs and audiovisual listening stations. Web site offers library catalog, databases member accounts, magazines and newspapers. Library cards are free to county residents. Late fee for books is 25 cents per book per day.
