Assessor-Recorder
Assessor’s office: 1115 Truxtun Ave., second floor, Bakersfield, CA 93301, 868-3485, assessor@co.kern.ca.us.

Establishes the value of taxable, assessable property and provides information to the public on property, taxes and ownership. The Assessment Roll lists all property and property owners in the county.


Clerk of the Board:
1115 Truxtun Ave., fifth floor, 868-3601, clerkofboard@co.kern.ca.us.

Prepares the weekly agenda and minutes for the Board of Supervisors, records official actions and maintains county documents dating back to the 1800s.


County Counsel: 1115 Truxtun Ave., fourth floor, 868-3800.

The civil attorney for the county of Kern serves as the legal adviser to the Board of Supervisors, elected and appointed county and court officers and employees.


Auditor-Controller-County Clerk: 1115 Truxtun Ave., second floor, auditor-controller 868-3599, county clerk 868-3588, elections 868-3590.

Responsible for general accounting for the county and special districts overseen by the Board of Supervisors, running county elections and handling marriage licenses and similar recorded documents.


Department of Human Services:
100 E. California Ave., 631-6000; 24-hour child abuse/neglect hotline, 631-6011.

Provides welfare services, including food stamps and Medi-Cal health services. Child Protective Services investigates abuse and neglect of children and helps oversee foster care.


Aging and Adult Services Department:
5357 Truxtun Ave., 868-1000 or 1-800-510-2020, aginginfo@co.kern.ca.us.

Offers senior-related information and referrals, elder-abuse prevention, legal services and case management.


Parks and Recreation Department: 1110 Golden State Ave., 868-7000. For emergencies after 5 p.m., call the Kern County Sheriff’s dispatch line 861-3110.

Manages 39 neighborhood parks, seven regional parks and 27 community, senior, veterans and recreation buildings. Administers three county-owned golf courses and provides patrols and boating permits for Isabella Lake, Lake Ming and Buena Vista Aquatic Recreational Area.
