Where to ride Kern River Parkway Bike Path: Mostly parallels the Kern River from Enos Lane west of Cal State Bakersfield to China Grade Loop just north of Gordon's Ferry, where it connects with Alfred Harrell Highway. Rides for beginners: The ride to Shafter and back on Santa Fe Highway, starting at Beach Park and the Kern Bike Path. More adventurous riders can continue past Shafter to Wasco and Delano. Road bike ride: Ride to Arvin, starting at the Circle K on Fairfax Road and following Tejon Highway to Arvin, then up Highway 223 and back on Bena Road and Edison Highway. Climbing ride: Ride up Lion's Trail, via Bena Road and Edison Highway to Caliente. Long-distance rides: Take North Chester Avenue to the Bakersfield-Glennville Road to Round Mountain Road. Follow Round Mountain Road over the hill and return to town following the Kern River.
